Physiology
Tautogoth is a massive species of Bypaldian, which resembles a minotaur and stands more than four times taller than a hunter on average. Resembling a minotaur in appearance means it has two large bull-like horns. It has large arms and legs which are very muscular. It has a very small almost vestigial tail. Its body and tail are a rusty red in color and its horns are a dark grey. Its eyes are a fiery orange. It has structures of what seems like obsidian on several parts of its body. On its legs it has them going up towards its shins. On its arms it has large braces of them, from which it can release its special powder, and it also has them on its shoulders like shoulder-pads. It has a boulder-like "backpack" of the obsidian-like material on its back.
Behavior
Tautogoth are massive and extremely aggressive Bypaldians which will attack almost anything they get in their sights. They'll fight with incredible physical power and the special explosive powder that they can produce.
Ecological Information
Placement in Food Chain
Tautogoth are found at the top of the food chain in their habitats as they're incredibly aggressive and powerful. They're capable of easily preying on small monsters and even several large monsters can fall prey to them. They are only challenged by other strong monsters.
Behavior towards Other Monsters
Tautogoth will almost immediately attack small monsters that enter the same area as it. Large monsters are also prone to almost immediately getting attacked by the large Bypaldian due to how aggressive it is. Sometimes it's known to even throw large monsters towards other foes.
Tracks
Tautogoth can leave behind several kinds of tracks for hunters to utilize in tracking it down. These tracks include "Large Prints", which can be found on the ground, "Volatile Powder", which can be found on the ground or on walls, "Burning Obsidian", which can be found on the ground, and "Acidic Substance", which can be found on the ground or on walls.
Specific Locale Interactions
Tautogoth doesn't have any specific locale interactions.
Special Behaviors
Tautogoth will occasionally grab a large monster and utilize them as weapons or throw them towards foes like a projectile.
Cutscene
Hunt Cutscene
- Location: Volcanic Hollow
- Synopsis: As the hunter walks into Area 3 of the Volcanic Hollow, they notice nothing too special except the absence of smaller monsters. Suddenly a large rock flies towards the hunter which they can barely dodge. When they turn in the direction of where the rock came from, they see the Tautogoth they have to take down, charging towards them. As it runs past them it turns around and tries slamming its arms on the hunter multiple times. This causes it to release the explosive powder from its braces which almost explodes on the hunter, but they just barely manage to dodge out of the way. The hunter looks towards the Tautogoth which stomps on the ground and roars, starting the hunt.
Ecology Cutscene
- Location: Volcano(2nd)
- Synopsis: The cutscene begins by showing Area 6 of the Volcano with not much going on besides a few Uroktors going about. Suddenly, the ground starts shaking and Uroktors look towards the entrance from Area 5. The camera turns in that direction, showing a Tautogoth entering the area. The Uroktors immediately go into the ground. The Tautogoth walks towards an explosive rock and lowers itself nearer to the rock. It spits out some of its weird spit onto the rock which not only starts breaking the rock apart into the powder, but also makes sure it doesn't immediately explode. As it has entirely broken apart into small powder, the Tautogoth grabs the powder and puts it in one of the braces on its arms. It then goes onto the next rock and repeats the process again, now filling up the second brace. The Tautogoth now walks away out of the area as the Uroktors come out of the ground again, looking as the Tautogoth goes; ending the cutscene.
Abilities
Tautogoth are massive Bypaldians which grants them incredible physical power. This is shown by the fact they can rip out large rocks out of the ground and throw it towards enemies. It can also charge at impressive speeds towards enemies. The obsidian-like structures on its body are heated thanks to constant exposure to heat, thus they can cause Fireblight. Tautogoth's main ability is its special powder that it keeps in its obsidian-like braces. This powder gets released whenever it slams its arm down. The powder will then start glowing more and more until it explodes.
Rage and Tired States
- Rage State: When Tautogoth becomes enraged its obsidian-like structures will start glowing. Its powder will now start exploding faster. It will also start using its weakening spit more.
- Tired State: When Tautogoth becomes tired it will start drooling and will fall over after some attacks.
Frenzy, Apex, Hyper and Tempered
Tautogoth can get affected by the Frenzy Virus and become Frenzied. Apex Tautogoth have also been found to exist. Hyper Tautogoth and Tempered Tautogoth have also been discovered.
Tautogoth's power is often compared to the likes of Rajang or Deviljho. Frenzied Tautogoth is thus also compared to Frenzied Rajang or Deviljho, meaning it has immense power. Frenzied Tautogoth have the usual changes of a Frenzied monster.
Tempered Tautogoth is a Threat Lv2 Tempered monster like Deviljho and also has the usual changes of a Tempered monster.
Hyper Tautogoth are even more powerful than Frenzied Tautogoth, having the usual changes of a Hyper monster.
Apex Tautogoth are immensely powerful, easily capable of causing destruction equal to the likes of Elder Dragons. They have the usual changes of an Apex monster.
Mounts
Tautogoth is mounted on its back, ontop of the obsidian-like boulder. The hunter will be stabbing it in its neck as the Tautogoth tries to grab the hunter to throw them off. If the hunter fails the mount, the Tautogoth will grab the hunter and slam them into the ground and then throw them away.
In-Game Description
Ecology
Taxonomy
- Order: Fanged Giant
- Suborder: Horned Giant
- Superfamily: Goth
- Family: Tautogoth
Tautogoth is a massive Bypaldian which inhabits volcanic and desert regions. It doesn't have any known close relatives.
Habitat Range
Tautogoth have been found inhabiting volcanic regions like the Old Volcano, Volcano (2nd), Volcano (3rd), Volcanic Hollow and Obsidian Caves. More rarely it is found in desert regions like the Desert, Dunes, Cracked Canyon and Ancient Outback.
Ecological Niche
Tautogoth are massive and powerful Bypaldians which have a carnivorous diet. Their size and strength allows them to have a wide range of prey while having very few predators, but still plenty of competitors. Small monsters which can fall prey to Tautogoth include the likes of Apceros, Cephalos, Bullfango, Wroggi and Uroktor. Larger monsters like Yian Kut-Ku, Daimyo Hermitaur, Great Wroggi, Basarios, Volvidon and Barroth can fall prey to this giant Bypaldian. When the Bypaldian is truly hungry it might try taking down dangerous monsters like Agnaktor, Rathalos and Glavenus.
Despite their size and power, Tautogoth still have to compete with equally powerful monsters. These can includes the likes of the earlier mentioned Agnaktor, Rathalos and Glavenus in volcanic regions, but also monsters like Midogaron, Voljang and Gravios. In desert regions they have to compete with powerful monsters like Akura Vashimu, Kuarusepusu and Diablos. Tautogoth also has to compete with powerful Deviants and Elder Dragons in these regions, but generally these monsters will stay away from each other.
One exception seems to be the Elder Dragon, Teostra. There have been multiple occasions reported of these two in a fierce battle. This has caused the rise of the theory that these two have a fierce rivalry.
Biological Adaptations
Tautogoth are powerful and massive Bypaldians which have developed a tough skin to protect them from their harsh habitats. Their size allows them to rip large rocks out of the ground to throw at opponents and despite their large size, they're still capable of charging at impressive speeds. They have also developed a way to use an obsidian-like material on their body which makes those areas even more protected. These structures are also hot enough to cause burns to other monsters or hunters. The braces on their arms are also capable of releasing a special powder which will quickly explode after it releases the brace. They are capable of creating this powder by breaking down explosive rocks with their spit. This spit can also weaken the armors of hunters.
Behavior
Tautogoth are extremely aggressive Bypaldians which will attack almost anything on sight. It's uncertain why they carry the massive boulder-like structure on their back, but it's theorized they will carve out new structures out of them for their body when the previous ones have broken down too much.
Interactions with Other Monsters
Low Tier Large Monsters
- Tautogoth versus Dodogama: Dodogama and Tautogoth start by roaring at each other after which Dodogama begins by swallowing several rocks and shooting the fiery blasts towards the Tautogoth. The Tautogoth takes a very small amount of damage from this. The Tautogoth will then pull a large rock out of the ground and throw it at Dodogama, dealing highly moderate damage and knocking the Dodogama over. Finally, the Tautogoth will leap towards the Dodogama and slam its arm down on it and releasing the explosive power, which will explode shortly afterwards, dealing rather high damage to the Dodogama.
- Tautogoth versus Nibelsnarf: The two begin by roaring at each other after which the Nibelsnarf will dig into the sand, leaving the Tautogoth to look around trying to locate it. The Nibelsnarf then leaps out of the ground and tries to chomp down on the Tautogoth, but the Tautogoth manages to catch the upper and lower jaws of the Nibelsnarf. The Tautogoth then goes against the Nibelsnarf's strength and slams its jaws shut, dealing low damage to it. The Tautogoth will then pull the Nibelsnarf out of the ground and quickly lift the Nibelsnarf up slightly and then slam it down, dealing rather high damage to it. There's a low chance the Tautogoth will instead throw the Nibelsnarf right back into the sand and only dealing moderate damage to it.
- Tautogoth versus Volvidon: The two begin by roaring at each other after which Volvidon hits the Tautogoth from range with its tongue, which deals rather low damage to the Tautogoth, but also deals rather low damage to the Volvidon due to hitting an obsidian part. The Volvidon then curls up and throws itself at the Tautogoth and will deal some moderate damage upon impact with the Tautogoth. The Tautogoth, however, also manages to catch the Volvidon which it will then use as a projectile against hunters by throwing it towards a hunter which will deal rather high damage to the Volvidon.
- Tautogoth versus Barroth: The two start by roaring at each other which is followed by the Barroth throwing a rock towards the Tautogoth with the use of its head. As the rock hits the Tautogoth, it will take little damage and will taunt the Barroth afterwards. This will cause the Barroth to start charging towards the Tautogoth which also starts charging with its shoulder. As the two impact, some moderate damage is dealt to the Tautogoth while the Barroth takes highly moderate damage and also gets recoiled heavily. The Tautogoth then grabs the Barroth by its crown and throws it away, dealing rather high damage to the Barroth.
- Tautogoth versus Basarios: The two start by roaring at each other after which the Basarios charges towards the Tautogoth, but the Tautogoth dodges out of the way and kicks the Basarios as it passes, making it trap over and dealing moderately low damage. The Tautogoth will then spit its weird spit at the back of the Basarios, which causes low damage repeatedly, amounting to moderate damage and causing the Basarios' back to be broken. The Tautogoth will then finish by slamming both of its arms onto the Basarios and causing a large explosion, dealing rather high damage.
- Tautogoth versus Dilostraulis: The two start by roaring at each other after which the Dilostraulus will climb up and leap off a ledge/wall and will glide above the Tautogoth. The Dilostraulis will do several aerial combos above the Tautogoth, repeatedly dealing low damage to it. The Tautogoth will then roar and grab the Dilostraulis out of the air and slam it onto the ground before lifting the Dilostraulis up and slamming them down again. Finally, the Tautogoth will stomp on the Dilostraulis, dealing rather high damage to the Dilostraulis in total.
High Tier Large Monsters
- Tautogoth versus Onyx Cerambus: The two begin by roaring at each other. Onyx Cerambus then charges at the Tautogoth, only to be stopped when the Bypaldian grabs the Onyx Cerambus's horn and slams it to the ground, dealing rather high damage. Still, the Onyx Cerambus refuses to back down, and strikes the Tautogoth with its horns upon recovering. This knocks the Tautogoth back and deals moderate damage. To end the Turf War, the Tautogoth charges into the Onyx Cerambus at full speed and knocks it away with an explosive punch, dealing high damage.
- Tautogoth versus Dune Mariellidae: The two start by roaring at each other after which the Dune Mariellidae creates a sand tornado which it sends towards the Tautogoth, which deals moderate damage to the Tautogoth. The Tautogoth then breaks apart the tornado as the Dune Mariellidae goes into the ground. The Tautogoth looks around trying to find the Dune Mariellidae, which then comes out of the ground under the Tautogoth. The Tautogoth, however, noticed the Dune Mariellidae before it came out of the ground and managed to get out of the and only got scathed, taking low damage. As the Dune Mariellidae is still in the air, the Tautogoth hits the Dune Mariellidae, sending it into the ground and dealing moderate damage. The Tautogoth then grabs the Dune Mariellidae and supplexes it into the ground, causing a large sand explosion due to the impact and dealing high damage to the Dune Mariellidae.
- Tautogoth versus Diablos: The two begin by roaring at each other, after which the Tautogoth runs at the Diablos, but the Diablos slams its tail into the Tautogoth, dealing moderate damage and making it back off. The Tautogoth then grabs a boulder and throws it at the Diablos, dealing rather moderate damage to the Diablos. The Diablos then charges towards the Tautogoth, but the Tautogoth manages to grab the Diablos' horns while still taking low damage. The Tautogoth then throws the Diablos to the side, dealing high damage.
- Tautogoth versus Brachydios: The two start by roaring at each other after which the Brachydios leaps at the Tautogoth and punches it with both its fists, dealing moderate damage to the Tautogoth. The Tautogoth then punches the Brachydios away, dealing moderate damage, but then the slime on the Tautogoth explodes, dealing moderately high damage to the Tautogoth. The Tautogoth then becomes enraged and throws a boulder at the Brachydios, dealing moderately high damage to the Brachydios. The Tautogoth then leaps towards the Brachydios and slams both its arms down onto it, dealing high damage to the Brachydios.
- Tautogoth versus Gravios: The two start by roaring at each other after which the Gravios shoots its heat beam at the Tautogoth which covers itself from the beam with its arms. The Tautogoth then slowly walks towards the Gravios while still blocking the beam. The Tautogoth will repeatedly take low damage, totaling up to moderate damage. When the Tautogoth reaches the Gravios, the Gravios stops firing its beam and tries hitting the Tautogoth, but the Tautogoth comes out of the cover of its arms and punches the side of the Gravios, causing a large explosion on impact, dealing rather high damage to the Gravios and knocking it over.
- Tautogoth versus Bazelgeuse: The two start by becoming enraged and roaring at each other after which the Bazelgeuse flies up and flies down into the Tautogoth, dealing moderately high damage to the Tautogoth and knocking it back. The Tautogoth then recovers and slams the back of its arm into the Bazelgeuse which also causes an explosion upon impact, dealing moderately high damage to the Bazelgeuse and knocking it back. After this the Tautogoth shouldercharges towards the Bazelgeuse at high speeds and dealing high damage to the Bazelgeuse and knocking it down upon impact. However, the Bazelgeuse dropped many scales when the Tautogoth hit it and these explode, causing high damage to the Tautogoth as the Bazelgeuse gets back up.
- Tautogoth versus Ryatroxos: The two monsters become enraged and start roaring at one another. Tautogoth then proceeds to engage by pulling a large boulder out of the ground and ignites it and swiftly smashes the explosive chunk of rock into the Ryatroxos face, dealing high damage and causing the Ryatroxos to violently writhe in pain. The Ryatroxos quickly regains its stance and proceeds to lunge at the Tautogoth, which attempts to dodge the Fanged Wyvern's jaws only to have its forearm caught. The Tautogoth successfully forces the Fanged Wyvern's jaws off its arm but is caught off guard by a sudden second lunge which knocks the fearsome Bypaldian onto its back. The Ryatroxos then locks its powerful jaws around the fallen Bypaldian's neck, dealing high damage. The Bypaldian tries to force the jaws of the Ryatroxos open but is unsuccessful in its attempts, the Tautogoth then throws an explosive punch into the Ryatroxos' lower neck, dealing moderate damage and causing the Fanged Wyvern to lose its grip and fall over. Tautogoth swiftly corrects it stance and attempts to pummel the Ryatroxos but is intercepted by a ball of toxic flames fired by the Fanged Wyvern, dealing moderate damage to the Bypaldian. The two monsters become exhausted from the fight and both leave the area.
- Tautogoth versus Teostra: The two start by becoming enraged and roaring at each other after which the two run at each other and start wrestling, but they quickly get away from each other, having dealt low damage to each other. The Teostra then flies up into the air and starts firing its flamethrower at the Tautogoth which takes rather high damage from it. The Tautogoth retaliates by quickly ripping a large rock out of the ground and throwing it at the flying Teostra which explodes upon impact, dealing rather high damage and causing Teostra to plummet to the ground. The Tautogoth then leaps towards the Teostra and slams its arms down onto the Teostra, causing more explosion and dealing high damage to the Teostra. The Tautogoth then tries to stomp on the Teostra, but the Teostra manages to recover and flies back into the air. The Teostra then releases its Supernova, dealing very high damage to the Tautogoth, breaking two to three parts on it and causing it to fall to the ground.
