Physiology[]

Subodios looks very similar to its much larger cousin, Solmaron, but its head resembles that of a gharial. It has much narrower jaws like a gharial and on the tip of its jaws it has a 'ghara' just like a male gharial. Subodios has a sail just like its larger cousin, Solmaron, but its sail is much smaller only extending slightly above the head and only covering the back. Subodios is overall slimmer than its much larger relative, Solmaron. Subodios also has stripes going from its sail vertically down the side of its body.

Subodios' lower body is a light bluish-green while the upper body is darker bluish-green, including the stripes and sail. Its eyes are colored blue.

Behavior[]

Subodios has a temperament almost entirely opposite to its larger cousin, Solmaron. It could in fact be called cowardly, cowering away at the slightest hint of a more powerful predator, but it will hunt down smaller predators if necessary. However, most of the time it will feed on fish.

Ecological Information[]

Placement in Food Chain[]

Subodios primarily feed on fish, but they're known to take a position in the middle of the food chain due to them still being capable of preying on smaller monsters and sometimes some large monsters. But, they still fall under predation from large and strong monsters.

Behavior towards Other Monsters[]

Subodios will let small monsters be in the same area as it as long as they don't provoke or attack it. Some large monsters like Velocidrome can also stay in the same area as it, but as soon as they get to close, the Subodios will try to get rid of those monsters. It will run out of an area when it realizes a larger monster is in the same area as it.

Tracks[]

Subodios can leave behind several tracks for hunters to utilize in tracking the Brute Wyvern down. These tracks include "Wet Prints", which can be found on the ground, "Hooked Claw Marks", which can be found on the ground or on walls, "Turquoise Gas", which can be found floating around, and "Sticky Red Substance", which can be found on the ground or on walls.

Specific Locale Interactions[]

Subodios doesn't have any specific locale interactions.

Special Behaviors[]

When Subodios notices a larger monster trying to attack it, it will release a cloud of its confusion gas which can cause the monster to become confused after which the Subodios will leave the area.

Cutscene[]

Hunt Cutscene[]

  • Location: Nightmare Marshes
  • Synopsis: As the hunter enters Area 6 of the Nightmare Marshes, they notice nothing out of the ordinary besides that there's no small monsters like Hornetaur around. They then notice a weird cloud of gas appearing in the area which they have no idea of what it is. When the cloud reaches them they start feeling weird and confused, no idea anymore where they are or where they are going. They then notice the silhouette of a monster moving towards them and luckily for the hunter, they get out of the confusion just in time, before the monster has the chance to swipe at them. As the cloud clears it is revealed to be a Subodios. The Subodios snarls and then roars at the hunter, beginning the hunt.

Ecology Cutscene[]

  • Location: Flooded Forest
  • Synopsis: The cutscene begins by showing a Subodios hunting for some fish in a lake in the area. The Subodios then seems to notice a bunch of fish and tries snagging one of them, but it seems to bite into something else. When the Subodios backs away, a fin comes out of the water with a bite mark in it and the monster which the fin belongs to then jumps out of the water in rage. It's a Plesioth, incredibly angry, because of the Subodios biting one of its fins. The Plesioth rushes towards the Subodios which releases its special confusion gas which affects the Plesioth, making it become confused. As the Plesioth starts trashing around, no idea what's going on, the Subodios runs away from the Plesioth which is now slamming itself into trees and spinning around like crazy as the cutscene starts ending.

Abilities[]

Subodios move similarly to their much larger counterparts, Solmaron, but not quite as aggressive or powerful. They instead are capable of producing a special gas which they can release from the tip of their snout which can cause threats to become confused. They also possess a special gland in their tail which can release a very pungent substance when feeling threatened, attracting other monsters. They are also quite capable swimmers, but will only use it to get away from danger.

Rage and Tired States[]

  • Rage State: When Subodios becomes enraged, the "ghara" on its snout will become enlarged and have streaks of bluish green from it. It will also start releasing a substance from its tail which can inflict Bloodied.
  • Tired State: When Subodios becomes tired, it will start drooling and the "ghara" on its snout will become smaller as it'll also fail utilizing its confusion gas sometimes.

Frenzy, Apex, Hyper and Tempered[]

Subodios can get affected by the Frenzy Virus and thus turn Frenzied, but they're not known to be capable of attaining the Apex State. They're however known to be capable of attaining both the Tempered and Hyper States.

Frenzied Subodios have the usual changes of a Frenzied monster, but are also capable of creating gas clouds that purely inflict Frenzy, instead of ones that inflict Confusion.

Tempered Subodios are considered Threat Lv1 Tempered Monsters and have the usual changes of a Tempered monster.

Hyper Subodios have the usual changes of a Hyper monster and can reward Hyper Extracts, Hyper Claws and Hyper Gharas in High Rank and Potent Extracts, Hyper Keenclaws and Hyper Ghara+'s in G-rank.

Mounts[]

Subodios has a similar mount animation to Solmaron, but nowhere near as fierce in its movements. It can be mounted on its head, back and tail.

Whenever Subodios is mounted on its head, the hunter will be located at the back of its head, near to where the neck starts, or hanging from either side of its head. The Subodios will try to get hunters off by violently shaking its head around, by running around and by slamming the side of its head into walls.

Whenever Subodios is mounted on its back, the hunter will be located right on the back on top of the small sail which doesn't obstruct the back from mounts like on Solmaron. The Subodios will try to get hunters off by shaking its body, by running around and by slamming the side of its body into walls.

Whenever Subodios is mounted on its tail, the hunter will be located at the base of the tail. The Subodios will try to get hunters off by violently shaking its tail around, by running around and by slamming its tail into the ground or walls.

  • Order: Saurischia
  • Suborder: Theropoda

Name Meaning: Swamp Confusing Spine

Subodios is a medium-sized Brute Wyverns found inhabiting swampy regions and is known to have a subspecies known as Foul Subodios. They're close relatives of the dangerous, invasive Solmaron.

Habitat Range[]

Subodios have been found primarily inhabiting swampy regions such as the Old Swamp, Flooded Forest, Muggy Marsh, Nightmare Marshes and Scarlet Marshes. They've also been found inhabiting the Verdant Hills, Deserted Island, Sunken Hollow, Everwood, Misty Peaks, Lonely Island, Primeval Coastline, Broken Archipelago, Sagnum Woods, Dark Hain and Sunken Isles.

Ecological Niche[]

Subodios sit in the middle of the food chain, even though they mostly feed on fish. Smaller predators won't hunt them and Subodios are still capable of hunting these smaller predators. These can include Jaggi, Velociprey, Genprey, but also monsters like Great Jaggi, Velocidrome and Gendrome. Monsters like Arzuros, Daimyo Hermitaur, Tetsucabra and Yian Kut-Ku might also occasionally be hunted, but this comes with great risk for the Subodios. Subodios have plenty of strong competitors like Shogun Ceanataur, Rathian, Najarala and Gobul.

Subodios have several large predators which they have to be careful of like Tigrex, Rathalos, Plesioth and Lagiacrus. Monsters like Deviljho and Solmaron will also hunt Subodios, but Solmaron seems to target Subodios less often than other monsters. Elder Dragons and Deviants are also a serious threat to this Brute Wyvern.

Biological Adaptions[]

Subodios have developed long, narrow jaws used for fishing which is their primary source of food. They have also become rather capable swimmers which they most often do to try escaping from predators, but can also be used to hunt its favorite prey. It also has reasonably-sized claws to tear up fish which can also be used against other prey or competitors, even though Subodios generally don't try to fight anything similar in strength to them. Subodios' most valuable adaption, however, is its ability to produce a special gas which can confuse enemies. This can be used for hunting smaller predators or even making an escape from a larger predator, for example. When feeling threatened, Subodios are also capable of expelling a pungent substance from a gland located in their tail which can attract other monsters to whatever got hit by it.

Behavior[]

Subodios are often rather cowardly when around similarly strong monsters, trying to stay away from them as much as possible. It would also rather escape from threats than trying to fight them, utilizing its confusing gas to its advantage.

I was in the Marshlands, peacefully trying to take some pictures of the nice scenery. Suddenly, this large thick fog came out of nowhere and I couldn't see anything anymore for my pictures. I also lost all sense of direction and nearly got lost. As I was leaving the area I saw the culprit, a Subodios! Take care of that bastard!

Notes:

-

  • This quest will play the Hunt Cutscene for Subodios when the hunter enters Area 6.

Gallery[]

Notes[]

  • Subodios' roar requires Earplugs to block.
  • Subodios can be affected by Sonic Bombs, Screamer Pods, Flash Bombs and Flashbugs, but none of them are more effective than the other thus each will affect the Subodios for the equal rather short amount of time.
  • When Subodios is tired it will either try to find a carcass and eat from it or find a fishing spot, catch a fish and eat it to regain Stamina.
  • Because Confusion can't be used on weapons, Subodios' weapons use Sleep instead.

Trivia[]

  • Subodios is based on Irritator, a spinosaurid, and gharial.
  • The idea for Subodios being able to cause Confusion comes from the fact that the skeleton of Irritator was said to be irritating and confusing to put together.
