Monster Hunter Origins - Lore

MH-Guild Crest Icon

The Guild is the governing body that handles the global state of affairs involving hunting regulations to protect monster populations along with civilizations: making the Guild also typically involved in criminal imprisonment.

Guild Rules and Regulations[]

The Guilds rules and regulations differ based on the district but there are five rules overall that all districts are required to follow, breaking these rules will result in penalization and disbanding of the individuals involved in the rule breaking.

1: Hunting any monsters without the approval of the Guild is forbidden and only justifiable if the monster has attacked individuals or citizens.

2: Zenny made by each District needs to be acknowledged by the primary Guild branch so that zenny laundering does not occur.

3: Health and Safety is priority, the safety of citizens especially. Absolutely nothing comes before the safety of citizens.

4: Designated roles are no longer to be discriminatively enforced as Felynes, Wyverians and Humans alike are all worthy and deserve respect.

5: The Guild Hunting Branch handles affairs that involve monsters and wildlife along with the careers of hunters while the Guild Protection Branch handles malicious criminal activity. Collision of either two must not occur unless absolutely necessary and approved by the Guild.

Handling Monsters[]

The Guild Hunting Branch are the primary force to handle monsters whenever they're causing trouble, whether its attack civilizations, overpopulating ecosystems or generally causing damage to the ecosystem.

The danger level along with addition information of each monster is handled by the both the Wycademy and the Royal Paleontology Scriveners whom either go out to the field to investigate the monsters role and behaviours in the ecosystem or collect data on hunters experience to determine the monsters danger level (this is specifically tied to high-ranked hunters, lower ranked hunters do not contribute to this for the sake of their safety).

The Wycademy and Royal Paleontology Scriveners are relatively similar but they operate very differently. The Wycademy operates akin to a large corp with small branches that serve as academies to students wanting to join the corp. They investigate and report to the Guild in large numbers with Hunters to go with them most of the time for safety measures.

The Royal Paleontology Scriveners however operate either entirely alone or in much smaller groups than the Wycademy, these solely consist of absolute experts of dealing with the environment and the monsters that make-up each ecosystem, this group are primarily the ones to discover brand new locales and brand new monster species. Well-known names that are part of the Royal Paleontology Scriveners consist of John Arthur, Gustave Ron, Darren Dino and Sir Beynes.

The Guild then establishes each monster in specific ranks in order to make sure hunters aren't handling a beast that is too much for them at their current rank. This setup is district-based as each Guild district within the Old World and beyond have different scriveneer teams and different hunters that have had different experiences with several monsters.

Each district is unique in their ranking, the Minegarde district has a specific threat level known as 'Game Changers', this threat level is applied to monsters that have been witnessed to have devastating abilities that go beyond a standard apex-level monster, this threat level is also applied to monsters that have been able to fend off Elder Dragon-Levelled monsters but do not damage or devastate ecosystems in the same way such monsters would. Examples of this would be the likes of Yian Garuga and Brachydios. The term 'Game Changer' derives off the hunts where monsters are considered game, the monsters that are underestimated or unveil unexpected abilities became considered 'Game Changers'. Most Guild branches eliminated this threat level due to its implied alignment with poachers but the Minegarde district still kept this threat level to provide extra pre-cautions for the hunters safety before they're assigned to hunt the monster.

Invaders and Elder-Dragons (along with non-Elders of the same level) are monsters that typically require the most urgent attention from the Guild as the specific monsters within these categories are able to cause major devastation to the ecosystems they appear in. The Elder Dragon Observation Team is responsible for identifying the whereabouts of these specific monsters to monitor their actions and location, with special equipment to deal with them if they're attacked. This is so they can determine or not whether the monster will attack a village or town, giving the residents time to either prepare or evacuate; it also being brought up to the Guild allows them to assign the top-ranked hunters to deal with the menace.

When there is a Living Cataclysm threat monster on the way, citizens are immediately evacuated, The Guild assigns the best hunters of their branch to fend off the monster. Normally the Military Force don't get involved when it comes to monster hunting and monster attacks but they're very likely to get involved if the attacking monster is Living Cataclysm-level.

Handling Crime[]

While the Guild Hunting Branch handles monsters and hazardous environments, the Guild Protection Branch is more broad but most of their efforts go to dealing with crime committed by Humans, Wyverians or even Lynians.

The crimes they're responsible for dealing with can range from petty theft to mass murders. The Protection Branch is not quite as publicly known about its operations compared to the Guild Hunting Branch, likely so information is secure against criminals. What is public knowledge however is that Guild Knights generally go undercover and will execute bandits, poachers (if they have a record of excessive poaching) and murderers. Criminals like petty thieves and poachers that have only poached one or two monsters typically get arrested instead.

Any reports of crime has to be reported directly to a Guild Knight hall or at-least send someone to contact Guild Knights for help if the crime is on-going or still in the planning process.

Compared to the Guild Hunting Branch, the Guild Protection Branch is severely underfunded as the Guild Hunting Branch utilizes a lot of resources when dealing with monsters. This will unfortunately have terrible consequences...

New World[]

The New World is the destination continent where the Elder Crossing ends and where Elder Dragons go to die, fueling the land of an obscure source known as 'bioenergy'. The root of this energy source is from a peculiar species known as the 'dragons of creation' on the Old World although their direct confirmed names are Xeno'jiiva and Safi'jiiva. The New World is known for its mix of boreal and arid landscapes but also hosting a unique biome where a species of coral-looking plants grow; below this ocean-like land-mass lies a deathly valley where the skeletons of monsters litter the chasms. The most prominent location in the New World is a volcanic region where strange rock formations and crystals form, littering the landscape beyond the lava-filled abode. Despite the Elder Crossing source being discovered among many other mysteries uncovered, the Guild still believes that the New World is housing many more secrets.

Secluded World[]

The Secluded World was first discovered during a shipwreck onto a coastal shoreline where blue foxfire glows among the ocean waters at night. Ever since then, visits to this foreign land have been frequent due to rather peculiar signs of human civility being present and traces of a mysterious cult lingering behind. These traces have caught the Guilds attention with the Guild planning a full set of fleets to investigate the Secluded World and uncover as many mysteries as possible.

Menocharian Isles[]

The Menocharian Isles is a foreign far-away land that is often described as the 'terrestrial sea'. The Menocharian Isles are known for its ocean-like landscapes and foilage that mixes with a distinct and bizarre array of alien-like fauna. Individuals that have been to the Menocharian Isles claim that it is a land enchanted by an anomalous surge where the rules and laws of land and sea are completely reversed. Confirmed information on the Menocharian Isles have been kept classified until further notice.

Biruinta Islands[]

The Biruintia Islands are a mix of mostly boreal and cold regions that make-up the nutrient-rich lands of the Biruintia Isles. Little is known of the islands wild inhabitants but it is confirmed that the isles retain some forms of civilization such as a village that some scholars have discovered is named 'Akasfjall' by the inhabitants. Plans to send a research team and communicate with the Akasfjallians are said to currently be in progress.

Parumea[]

Parumea is a continent far from the Old World that is shrouded in mystery and very little is known about it. Few historic case studies have mentioned about a 'colossal fish' that swims about the ocean tides near the continent while the mainland itself is said to be clad in frost by a titanic elder dragon. These have been dismissed as rumours although these are the only traces of information known about Parumea. Any traces of a research team being sent to investigate the continent exists but none have intent of sharing their findings.

Off-map Locations (Minor)[]

Boiling Sea[]

A faraway sect of the ocean that is constantly boiling hot for unknown reasons. Studying this area finds that most marine life die from the high temperatures here but select few species have actually been able to flourish and thrive with even marine plant-life and coral surviving in the ocean floors. The Guild speculates that this is the natural habitat of Phoradius although the reasons for why the fish species have been invading colder oceans in recent years remains unknown.

Necropolis Bay[]

WIP

Elysiono[]

A small-sized island that is littered with statue heads that are rather similar to the statue heads found in the Remote Exile although unlike the aforementioned region, this island has specialized statues that seem to resemble some types of amphibians, one of which resembling a Tetsucabra although this is dismissed by scholars to be mere coincidences. This island is known to actually be relatively peaceful despite its mysterious nature and even habitable with various edibles growing on the island; including unique type of fruit that is nicknamed a 'chorus fruit'; these fruits seem to emit strange sounds at certain times without known explanation. Its currently speculated that the former inhabitants would preserve these fruits as blessings from the gods.

Deadland[]

A relatively medium-sized island that is surrounded by lush but dangerous jungles that is known for having poisonous plants and vegetation absolutely everywhere. The few sailors that explore the island often die or retain permanent injuries from the toxic vegetation that litters the biome but some guild scholars have been able to avoid the danger with specialized equipment with little to no weaponry needed as the island supposedly has little to no wildlife. It gets its name 'Deadland' due to the central region of the island being clad in rubble, rocks and man-made ruins of unknown origin; the strange thing about this place is the fact the jungle foilage doesn't grow through or over the centre of the island with traces of deceased plants being witnessed between the borders. The centre of the island is said to reek of death and rumoured to house phantoms that were the former inhabitants of the supposed civilization.

The Kitchen[]

The Kitchen is named after its strange natural processes; advisors and masters that know of the 'kitchen' describe it as a bizarre combination of an environment similar to the Rotten Vale from the New World with a massive array of corpses and skeletons combined with a hellish volcanic atmosphere; spews of flame, embers and lakes of lava littering the region. Monsters that arrive to this area to die are then roasted and cooked by the temperatures that rise and fall seemingly at random with no current known explanation.

Rime Vacuum[]

Far to the south-west of the Aya Country is rumoured to have a strange phenomenon, consisting of sections of the ocean that is completely frozen; even from the seabed. These flat plains of pure ice retain no natural wildlife aside from the occasional migrating Anurustas and Pokaradon. The formation of these flat ice plains are rumoured to be the cause of an elder dragon or a gathering of elder dragons that emit so much frosty mist that parts of the ocean proceed to freeze in a gradual process until it becomes a full blown frozen crust. Sailors have sighted colossal silhouettes far off the distance near the Rime Vacuum, said to even dwarf Zorah Magdaros but these are dismissed as exaggerated rumours.

The Vanishing Isles[]

Not one island but rather, a collection of islands that have been reported to either move by themselves or vanish after a day has passed by. There is not much information known about this phenomenon but documentation is collected and analyzed as sightings and rumours have become so frequent that it can't reasonably be ignored.

Sauriusana[]

WIP

Erosbury Storm Bay[]

A rather small continent that is seemingly permanently clad in storms and rather awful weather. The mainland itself has little to no trees with the very few trees present having particularly strong trunks; presumed to have adapted to the harsh winds that cross this region. From what limited documentation there is, scholars have reported a surprisingly high population of Kualzeus's and Kushala Daora's with the former hanging around the shorelines with young members of the species being seen surfacing to the shores which has lead to speculation that the continent is likely Kualzeus's native homeland. Meanwhile, the Kushala Daora populations dwell fairly deeper in-land and seemingly socially, these populations of Elder Dragon is theorized to likely be the reason why the continent is surrounding by a constant array of storms. Herbivores are almost non-existence on the explored regions of the continent which implies most inhabitants are primarily piscivores. The isolated nature of the mainland overall is theorized to be what lead to the continent become a breeding ground for the steel dragons. A rather disturbing discovery has been of deceased Kushala Daora's with their shedded skin having the bite marks that are akin to another Kushala Daora along with further investigations uncovering the destroyed rubble of mountains; current speculation is leaning on the cuprit of these phenonemons being a not-yet seen species of Kushala Daora that is much more powerful than the standard species.

City of Azecia[]

WIP

Ophidian Archipelago[]

The Ophidian Archipelago is one of the farest regions ever discovered so far and is rumoured to be the breeding grounds for Dalamadurs as airships have spotted seemingly juvenile-forms of the snake-like elder dragons; coiled together in a nest-like structure. The region is said to be absolutely enormous but there has currently not been any more documentation or exploration of the archipelago after the juvenile Dalamadur discovery.

Magaralia[]

Magaralia is the name of a small landscape that has been completely engulfed by the Frenzy Virus of the Magalas with the fauna adjusted and accustomed to the violet-coloured pathogens. The influence of the virus has supposedly stained the plant-life with a mixed colouration of purple, pink and blue-ish while housing unique species that thrive in the influence of the virus. This region has remained entirely unexplored due to the challenging terrain and the constant influx of frenzy virus that litters the landscape. It is unknown how the Magalas thrive here, if they even do at all but the Guild does speculate that a particularly powerful subspecies of Shagaru Magala is responsible for the state of this obscure landscape.

The Black Prophecy[]

The Black Prophecy is the name of a deciphered ancient hypothesis that states that each age ends on the emerging of a monster tinted in black that is destined to bring an end to the world with each documented age having historical events that correlate with this obscure and mysterious prophecy.

From the very minimal documentation on the First Age, there is a collection of artistic portrayals of a giant black-scaled serpent that is said to have come from the void and attempted to bring the world into eternal darkness. There is no known knowledge of this serpent although some speculate that the serpent did succeed in the reset of the world which is why little remains of the First Age but this has not been confirmed and is considered unlikely by experts. Speculation on the origin of this supposed void serpent is far and few and there is too little information to investigate further.

The end of the Millennium Age faced a catastrophic event known as the Black World which was caused by an enigmatic dragon said to have emerged from the shadows called Auzahno Umbra. The enigmatic dragon is said to have clouded the world in pure darkness, this catastrophe nearly caused a mass extinction event as plants were deprived of sunlight which resulted in a mass starvation that affected every living thing. This would result in a surge of conflicts that would only increase the already immense body-count caused by the shadow dragon before it was slain by the Drakk family, potentially saving the world from the eternal end of all life.

The near end of the Runner Age is where the world fell victim to an eldritch demon of the underworld that was responsible for invading the minds of millions, the minds that fell victim to the demon known as Yozuri'Kazzar would be driven to insanity; resulting in countless indirect deaths of both civilizations and monsters. One of the worst cases of this was the case of the unknown kingdom that is now named the Abyssal Citadel by the Guild where Yozuri'Kazzar supposedly caused a physical collision course that caused the island that held the kingdom to sink, becoming the lost underwater ruins that it is in modern times. An unknown but cherished hero named the Scarlet Avenger would dive into the underworld and stop the demons mind invasions; saving humanity from an era of despair.

Many speculate on what will attempt to fulfill the black prophecy for the Modern Age, many have held the belief that the Legendary Black Dragon known as Fatalis will be the one that will bring an end to the world with the fall of Schrade being just a mere fragment of the chaos to come but several scholars and researchers who are truly dedicated to the belief of this prophecy have a strong belief that there is a much bigger threat out there that is destined to make a permanent mark in the world, even if its defeated. There is little proof of this but the truth surrounding Fatalis as the ancient species it is has seemed to nullify the claims of Fatalis being the modern ages black prophecy but that begs the question of what could be...
