Physiology[]
Crimson Voluron are even larger than Tsunami Voluron and slightly more muscular. Their body structure is still similar, but Crimson Voluron are instead covered in armor-plating on the top of its body, similarly to Lagiacrus, and the sides are covered in thicker hide due to swimming in lava. Crimson Voluron's spikes are dark in color and resemble volcanoes. They use these spikes to gather volcanic ash and smoke which gathers in the special sacs under the spikes. When enraged, these spikes will start glowing and will resemble active volcanoes. The clawspikes of a Crimson Voluron are large and are a similar volcano color to the other spikes. The actual claws of a Crimson Voluron are larger and more developed than those of a Tsunami Voluron. The jaws of a Crimson Voluron are filled with several large teeth which could easily crush tough shells and scales, while the smaller teeth are sharp enough to easily cut through thick hides. Their frills are also armored like the rest of the top of the body and glow with an orange hue. The top of Crimson Voluron's body is a crimson red while the bottom of the body is a redwood red in color. The actual claws of a Crimson Voluron are blood red in color and its eyes are black.
Behavior[]
Crimson Voluron are incredibely aggressive monsters which have been found to commonly attack almost anything which dares to enter their territory. This, combined with its immense size and power, allows it to scare off many other monsters and protects it from predation from all but the strongest monsters. It's even known to have a fierce rivalry with the powerful Akantor. They're also known to have a favorite prey in the form of Pirolipos.
Ecological Information[]
Placement in Food Chain[]
Crimson Voluron are found at the very top of the food chain as their immense size, unimaginable physical strength and deadly elemental powers make them a threat for all but the strongest monsters. They're effortlessly capable of feeding on small monsters, especially those they can swallow whole, and even large monsters aren't safe from this titanic Leviathan. The favorite prey of a Crimson Voluron is known to be Pirolipos as the Crimson Voluron have commonly been seen feeding on these Mollusks, even when there are other small monsters around that the Leviathan would be capable of swallowing whole. Crimson Voluron is thought to sometimes even feed on other powerful monsters and Elder Dragons, but these monsters are also known to compete with the Leviathan. Only immensely powerful monsters are thought to be capable of feeding on Crimson Voluron.
Behavior towards Other Monsters[]
Crimson Voluron will immediately attack small monsters that wander too close to it or dare to provoke it, but it will also commonly attack small monsters without this having happened. Large monsters are also bound to get attacked by the gigantic Leviathan, even without there seemingly being a reason. Crimson Voluron will even attack other powerful monsters and Elder Dragons with seemingly no fear and there's only few monsters known that could cause a Crimson Voluron to retreat.
Tracks[]
Crimson Voluron can leave behind a large variety of tracks for hunters to utilize in tracking it down. These tracks include "Giant Heavy Prints", which can be found on the ground, "Large Red Scales", which can be found on the ground, "Heavy Crimson Shells", which can be found on the ground, "Ashen Large Claw Marks", which can be found on the ground or on walls, and "Volcanic Fragments", which can be found on the ground.

As the hunter looks in the direction of where the blasts came from, they notice this large monster slowly come out of the large lava pool on the east side of the area. The large monsters roars and starts the hunt.
Hunt Cutscene[]
- Location: Volcano (2nd)
- Synopsis: The hunter now knows what the monster which crashed their Black Gravios hunt was. It was a Crimson Voluron, the Rare Species of the powerful Voluron, and now they're out on the hunt for it. As the hunter enters Area 7 of the Volcano, they notice several large gashes on the walls and notice a set of large prints on the ground. As the hunter investigates the tracks, the area starts shaking heavily and suddenly many blasts of fire bombard the hunter from above. The hunter manages to avoid the blasts and turns towards the direction of where the blasts came from. They notice a large monster quickly getting out of the lava pool on the west side of the area. It's the Crimson Voluron they've been tasked with hunting. When the Crimson Voluron gets near to the hunter, it breathes out a stream of volcanic ash at them, the hunter quickly runs out of the way as the Crimson Voluron then fires its heat beam at them. The hunter, however, manages to avoid all of it and thus the Crimson Voluron stops firing. The hunter looks back towards the Crimson Voluron and as the smoke clears up, the Crimson Voluron roars loudly and starts the hunt.

Abilities[]
Crimson Voluron mostly retains the body structure of the other Volurons and thus moves mostly the same. But, due to the large armor plating and even larger size, Crimson Voluron's physical attacks are even more devastating than those of Tsunami Voluron.
While regular Voluron use electricity and Tsunami Voluron use Water, Poison and Hydrotoxin, Crimson Voluron use the Fire and Dragon elements. Their Dragon elemental power is powered by the volcanic ash they take in through the spikes on their back. They'll also often combine these two together for devastating attacks of flaming ash. When enraged, a Crimson Voluron's spikes will glow and resemble active volcanoes as blasts start erupting from it while the Crimson Voluron does other attacks. Unlike the other Volurons, Crimson Voluron doesn't have to recharge or gather at all as it's constantly refilling its supply of volcanic ash and smoke.
Rage and Tired States[]
- Rage State: Its spikes will start to glow and resemble active volcanoes as it starts to fire blasts from those spikes at foes while also doing other attacks. It will also start doing powerful attacks which combine its fire and volcanic ash or smoke.
- Tired State: It will start drooling and the top and bottom of its body will become lighter in color. It will also sometimes fail doing its elemental attacks.
Frenzy, Apex, Hyper and Tempered[]
Crimson Voluron are capable of being affected by the Frenzy Virus and becoming Frenzied and they are also known to be capable of achieving the Apex State. They have also been found in the Hyper and Tempered States.
Frenzied Crimson Voluron have the usual changes of a Frenzied monster, but the volcanic ash or smoke it releases also has a chance of causing the Frenzy Virus.
Tempered Crimson Voluron are considered a Threat Lv3 Tempered Monster and have the usual changes of a Tempered Monster.
Hyper Crimson Voluron have the usual changes of a monster in the Hyper State and also gains a new attack. Flaming Ash Cone Laser: The Crimson Voluron will first roar at a hunter and then start gathering fire and ash in its mouth. After this it will fire out a laser made out of fire, volcanic ash and smoke at the ground and is shaped like a cone. The Crimson Voluron will then slowly start raising its head which causes the laser to become larger and larger in size until it starts raising its head faster and is eventually firing at the sky or ceiling of the area it's in. This attack can cause Severe Fireblight, Dragonblight and Defense Down. This attack can also send hunters flying away and cause them to be Stunned once they recover.
Apex Crimson Voluron have the usual changes of a monster in the Apex State, but also gains the attack that Hyper Crimson Voluron and another new attack. Nova Beam: The Crimson Voluron will first roar and then raise its body as it charges a large amount of fire and volcanic ash in its mouth. The Crimson Voluron then lowers itself back to the ground as it splits its lower jaw and fires a massive beam of fire and volcanic ash towards hunters which cause the ground to getting heated up. After a short while, a massive explosion will happen which will also trigger smaller explosions to happen around it. If hunters get hit by the laser itself, they will be send flying away and be afflicted with Severe Fireblight, Severe Dragonblight, Defense Down and be Stunned once they recover. If hunters get hit by the massive explosion, they can get knocked away and be afflicted with Severe Fireblight, Severe Dragonblight and Defense Down. If hunters get hit by the smaller explosions, they can get knocked away and be afflicted with Fireblight, Dragonblight and Defense Down.
Mounts[]
Crimson Voluron has a similar mount animation to the other Volurons and can be mounted on three parts of its body: the head, the body and the tail.
When Crimson Voluron is mounted on its head, the hunter will either be located on either side of its neck or between the large volcano spikes on the top of its neck. The Crimson Voluron will try to get hunters off by violently shaking its head, by running around and by slamming the side of its head and neck into walls or the ground.
When Crimson Voluron is mounted on its body, the hunter will either be located on either side of its body or between the large volcano spikes on its back. The Crimson Voluron will try to get hunters off by either shaking its body, by running around, by slamming the side of its body into walls and by rolling over the ground.
When Crimson Voluron is mounted on its tail, the hunter will either be located on either side of its tail or on the top of the tail. The Crimson Voluron will try to get hunters off by violently shaking its tail around, by running around and by slamming its tail into walls or the ground.
In-Game Description[]
Ecology[]
Taxonomy[]
- Order: Leviathan
- Suborder: Sea Wyvern
- Infraorder: Ancient Shell Wyvern
- Family: Voluron
Crimson Voluron are the Rare Species of Voluron and are amongst the largest Leviathans around, being outsized by few other Leviathans and amongst the largest non-Elder Dragon monsters. Like Tsunami Voluron, due to being a Rare Species of Voluron, Crimson Voluron doesn't have much relation to other Leviathans besides Lagiacrus and its subspecies.
Habitat Range[]
Crimson Voluron can be found inhabiting several volcanic areas. These areas include the Old Volcano, Battleground, Volcano (2nd), Volcano (3rd), Volcanic Hollow, Ingle Isle, Inferno Hill, Sherin Peaks, Elder's Recess, Apocalyptia and Obsidian Caves.
Ecological Niche[]
Crimson Voluron are found occupying a position at the very top of the food chain as their immense size and power allows them to feed on just about anything. Prey of the smallest variety includes the likes of Apceros, Bullfango, Ioprey, Uroktor, Aptonoth, Rhenoplos, Slagtoth and many other small monsters. Prey of a larger variety can include the likes of Iodrome, Tetsucabra, Dodogama, Rathian, Shogun Ceanataur, Basarios, Volvidon and many others. It's thought that it will rarely even hunt monsters as large and powerful as Rathalos, Cavornia, Infernal Aviarctin, Coal Khezu, Agnaktor and Brute Tigrex whenever necessary. Its favorite prey, however, is the Mollusk, Pirolipos. They have been found to commonly prey on this Mollusk, but sometimes this doesn't turn out well for the Leviathan as the Mollusk is still rather dangerous.
Due to the Crimson Voluron's immense power, it doesn't have to worry about any predators, but plenty of monsters can compete with it. These can include the likes of some of the aforementioned monsters, but also Elder Dragon-level monsters, like Bazelgeuse and Hellfire Aviarcta, very powerful Deviants, like Hellblade Glavenus and Roguerebel Amaranth Astalos, and the occasional Elder Dragon. But even these monsters will rarely take on a Crimson Voluron as Crimson Voluron are capable of even challenging the mighty Akantor.
Biological Adaptations[]
Crimson Voluron are massive, crimson red Leviathans adapted to hunting in volcanic regions and swimming through the hot magma and lava. Unlike the other Volurons, Crimson Voluron have developed a large armored body which helps them survive in the dangerous volcanic regions they inhabit. The spikes on the back of a Crimson Voluron are of similar size of those located on a Tsunami Voluron's back and resemble volcanoes. It utilizes these spikes to collect volcanic ash and smoke which gather in its special sacs located under the spikes. This is what powers its dragon elemental attacks of which it has a variety. It's also capable of utilizing the fire it creates in its fire sacs for a variety of attacks. It's even capable of combining these two abilities for devastating attacks. When a Crimson Voluron has been angered enough, its spikes will glow brightly and resemble active volcanoes as the Crimson Voluron starts releasing several kinds of blasts from them, even when doing other attacks. The clawspikes of a Crimson Voluron are very large and deadly as they can easily pierce through tough shells. The jaws of a Crimson Voluron are filled with many teeth which include large ones, which can easily crush tough shells and scales, and small ones, which can cut through thick hides. Like all other Volurons, Crimson Voluron is capable of splitting its lower jaw to swallow prey whole.
Behavior[]
Crimson Voluron are massive and very aggressive Leviathans which will attack just about anything that enters their territory. Crimson Voluron is known to utilize its volcanic ash and smoke to blind and weaken prey after which it will either use its fire element to take down the prey. However, the Crimson Voluron will more commonly deliver one deadly strike with either its jaws or clawspikes for an easy kill.
