"A large forest constantly covered with snow. It has a large glade in its center that also includes a - most of the time - frozen lake. Not many monsters are found here due to the harsh climate. The Frozen Forest is a harsh and cold conifer forest that is permanently covered with snow. The area includes densely forested sections as well as larger glades. It is known for its central glade that contains a moderately sized body of water. Some reports claim to see cracks on the ice and hear strange sounds under the ice, but many classify these reports as pure fiction. The area is also said to be the home of an elusive Elder Dragon.
Layout[]
- Base Camp: The only base camp - if it even deserves this name - is settled in a small cave within one of the large and craggy hills and mountains sorrounding most of the forest. It has no actual tent and no item boxes. The only way out is a small hole in the stone wall, through which the hunter needs to crawl to get to area 1.
- Area 1:After climbing through the stone wall, the hunter falls into this area. It is a very dense part of the forest. The large amount of snow and vegetation makes it almost impossible for any light to penetrate it, making the area very dark. At night, hunters require a torch. Anteka usually reside here. Large monsters can come here to rest. One particularity of this area are occasional avalanches that come from the mountains, most commonly ocurring when large monsters roar or scream.
- Area 2: A less dense part of the forest, this area is more suitable for combat. Light actually reaches all the way to the ground and the trees are not as crammed as in area 1. There are smaller glades withing this area; the hunter can actually see the central glade and frozen water body from here. Giaprey are a common sight in this area. Monsters like Rajang usually stride through this area as well.
- Area 3: The central glade and landmark of this area. It is very large and also almost entirely flat, except for some tree trunks and stones at the shore. The lake, or rather large pond is usually covered in a layer of thick ice, enabling both hunters and monsters - even large monsters like Vraoutos or Frostpeak Gammoth - to walk on it. However, sometimes when leaving and entering the area hunters may notice large cracks in the ice, disabling them from walking on it.
- Area 4: A part of the forest located on the other side of the central glade. This part of the forest is notable for - although it does contain lots of coniferes - its exposed rock formations that are beneficial for combat. Monsters can, however, destroy some rocks with enough brute force. There are usually no small monsters here, although both Giaprey and Anteka can come here. The reason for their absence is usually the large glade, as it leaves them vulnerable for potential threats.
This layout is not like in other games, as the areas are seamlessly connected, much like in MHWorld. The terms like Area 4 or Area 3 are, again like in MHWorld, to show where one part of the large area ends and where the other starts. Sometimes hiding from the monsters can be difficult, usually when in the central glade, as getting into the more dense parts of the forest requires quite some time, due to the size of the pond and the area surrounding it.
