Creator ThumbThumb

Apavwi is a low-ranking Bird Wyvern created by ThumbThumb that lives in forests and jungles.

Physiology[]

Apavwi's general body shape is not unlike that of a kiwi, however much larger in size, around the same height as a Yian Kut-Ku. It’s body is covered in dark green feathers that are very thin, almost like fur. However towards the rear are much larger tail feathers that spread outwards like a fan. These feathers start off being the same dark green as the rest of the body but become lighter towards the centre, like a lime green. An Apavwi's wings are much too small to carry it’s weight, so usually remain held tight to the body. The webbing on these wings are small due to lack of use but still remain a light green coloration. On top of these, it has a set of hard shell plating lining it’s back for defensive purposes, this carries the same lime green colouration. The Apavwi’s signature beak is quite large, being long straight and tubular like the barrel of a gun, and splits in two halves to open when necessary. This beak is a light black in colour. The legs and feet are the same colour, and are quite large and wide to suit it’s life on the ground instead. The eyes are mostly black in colouration.

Behaviour[]

Apavwi are known to be relatively timid and skittish since they are prey monsters, but will put up a fight if need be when monsters are equal or lower in power to it.

Ecological Information[]

Placement in Food-Chain[]

These bird wyvern are low on the food-chain, much like Yian Kut-Ku or Hypnocatrice. As such, they fall victim to larger monsters quite frequently, namely Rathalos and Nargacuga for example. As for their own feeding habits, Apavwi tend to feed off of the plant life in the area. It prefers to eat fruits and berries for their juices, but will settle for leaves if this isn’t an option.

Behaviour Towards Other Monsters[]

In the face of larger monsters, Apavwi will run from the area to avoid being prey, however this isn’t always successful. Towards predatory smaller monsters, it’ll try to fend them off best it can, but will avoid them if possible. However towards other herbivores, Apavwi may try and chase them off so that it gets all the fruit in the area for itself.

Tracks[]

Due to its large feet and spending all of its time on the ground, Apavwi will frequently leave behind footprints in areas with soft soils. Along with this, it may leave behind remnants of its food as well as some scattered green feathers.

Abilities[]

It uses a plethora of melee attacks with its beak, legs and the rest of its body, however it is more well known for its ranged attacks. Apavwi stores spare juices in a special organ in its body, where it ferments and collects seeds. It can use this by expelling it back out it’s mouth, using it’s beak to aim and direct like the barrel of a gun, hence it’s unusually shape. These globs inflict Natureblight.

Rage and Tired States[]

  • When enraged, it ruffles up its body feathers and spreads out it’s tail feathers much further. Along with this, it becomes more aggressive, using more of its ranged attacks.
  • When tired however, it’s tail feathers become droopy and it stops using it’s ranged attacks. It will find somewhere to feed on more plants.

In-game Description[]

Apavwi
Apavwi Icon by TheElusiveOne These herbivorous bird wyverns feed off of fruits and berries that it uses to shoot back out of its beak in ranged attacks. Female Apavwi choose which males to breed with depending on which ones have the larger, healthier looking tail feathers.

  • Charge Slam Combo: After charging, Apavwi jumps up and slams back down.
  • Charge Shot Combo: After charging, it turns around and performs a triple shot.

Notes[]

  • This is an early bird wyvern, much like that of Yian Kut-Ku, Hypnocatrice or Pukei-Pukei.
  • All Apavwi you fight in-game are males. The females are smaller and lack tail feathers.
