Auros is a Fanged Beast first appearing in Monster Hunter World Cataclysm.

Auros is a medium sized Fanged Beast covered in dark brown and yellow fur, greatly resembling a large bat. Its body is very stocky however, unlike other batlike monsters such as its relative the Chiros, and its arched back and thick shoulders suggest a different lifestyle entirely. From these broad shoulders connect a large pair of wings, which are seemingly modified hands/fingers on the surface, and end in large claws. These wings do not contain enough skin between them to fly however, and the extra weight from its frame makes this even more impossible. Though they cannot use these wings to fly, they can use the highly developed claws to dig through solid rock, as well as in both attack and defence. It also has two pairs of smaller claws on its hindlegs, used partly in locomotion and grasping surfaces. Auros is completely blind, due to a covering of gold over its eyes, but has a pair of large, highly developed ears instead, and has excellent hearing. Its jaw is lined with sharp yet broad teeth that is uses to crunch on Neopterons and other hard-scaled creatures.

Auros is capable of digging through solid rock its large front claws, as well as powerful blows with them. It can also deliver strong bites with its sharp teeth or whacking foes with its arms-wings. It can also use its claws to dig up and throw rocks at targets, or even stronger chunks of gold when angered, and is astonishingly accurate despite being blind, though this is due to its usage of echolocation.

Ecological Information

Placement in Food Chain

Auros is one of the lowest monsters on the food chain, feeding on smaller monsters such as Vespoid, Hornetaur, Gastodon, Coinquera and Cardinal Kulu-Ya-Ku.

Behavior Toward Other Monsters

Auros will usually peacefully coexist alongside monsters of similar strength, and will only go after monster smaller than itself. When threatened, it will retreat underground, where it is completely safe.

Auros can leave Knuckleprints on the ground, Gold Flecked Fur on the ground, and Claw Marks on walls.

Specific Locale Interactions

Auros can be seen honing its claws on gold ore seen in the Caverns, or lounging around the higher portions.

Special Behavior

Auros will make ready to dig once it spots its prey or a larger predator.
