Ankhami'dea is a leviathan, related to Somnacanth, that first appears in Monster Hunter: Outcast. It is the apex of the Blacksand Beach.
Physiology[]
Similarly to its cousin Somnacanth, Ankhami'dea has a very thin profile, with grasping limbs. However, aside from this singular similarity, the two are remarkably different.
Ankhami'dea has a rough, long snout, resembling that of a crocodile. Its back is dark in color, while its underside is a marshland green. Large dark crests come down from the back of its head, like Somnacanth, only this turns out to be knotted hair and seaweed, giving it a green pigment. It is believed that the purpose of this decoration is to provide a protective layer around the monster's throat, where it stores potent electrical organs, as well as to keep its gills wet.
Ankhami'dea has thicker legs than Somnacanth, allowing it to travel quickly on the sands of shorelines. Meanwhile, their long tails are packed with powerful muscles, but due to the end smaller fins at their tips, Ankhami'dea is not as adept in the water as other, more powerful leviathans, like Lagiacrus. The species seems to avoid the more well-known leviathan as a result, and the two are never found living in the same areas, suggesting that they fill similar evolutionary niches and cannot live together.
Ankhami'dea spends a large amount of time out of water, only revisiting the waves to replenish its mane, so that its gills can stay wet. Like Somnacanth, it can stand on its tail, however it lacks many ranged attacks and does not do so often. More likely, it can be found buried vertically in the ground, waiting for prospective prey, which it will pounce on, and attempt to deliver a fatal electrical shock through its fangs to stop the prey's heart.
Behavior[]
Ankhami'dea is an ambush predator, lurking under the sand with only its eyes visible. When prey approaches, it will lunge for it and wrestle it to the ground, before using specialized fangs to deliver shocks to its prey's nervous systems and heart, in the hopes of causing a cardiac arrest. It will repeat this process until the target collapses. Aside from this, Ankhami'dea are solitary animals that command large territories, and they are especially hostile to one another on land, where they hunt. Combat is short, with the victor often being the larger monster, which has higher tolerance to electrical shocks.
Tracks[]
Ankhami'dea leave "Wet footprints" by moving, and occasionally "Beached Seaweed" when their protective coating starts to dry out and shed.
Specific Locale Interactions[]
Very occasionally, Ankhami'dea can be found resting below the sand, with only their eyes above the ground. If hunters approach them, they will wake up, and drag themselves from their lair. They can also be found wading into the waters of either the sea or the underground lake to restore their manes when they haven't entered combat with the player.
Special Behavior[]
Ankhami'dea has no special behavior.
Turf Wars[]
With Gritruma The snake wyvern takes up its position against the leviathan, both of them hissing and twitching, trying to intimidate the other. Gritruma then begins to hack up a dragon-essence glob - before it can spit it, Ankhami'dea is lunging straight for its exposed throat, biting into it for medium damage, and making the snake wyvern panic. Gritruma manages to throw the predator off of itself, before escaping.
With Carapaceons The leviathan takes its place opposite the carapaceon, which waves its claws in an attempt to intimidate the other monster. Instead, Ankhami'dea throws itself at the crab. Gluanngrejo/Daimyo Hermitaur manages to catch it in its claws and hold it away from itself, but Ankhami'dea is too large and powerful to be restrained, managing to work itself above the carapaceon, wriggling until it loses grip, and latchings its jaws onto the monster's body. Ankhami'dea bites down to deal damage, while the carapaceon thrashes, until it manages to throw the leviathan off. Ankhami'dea roars as the carapaceon retreats.
With Royal Ludroth The two leviathans hiss and howl, before charging at one another and locking claws. The force of their impact is enough to drive them both onto their hind legs, biting at one another - but Ankhami'dea's greater size ultimately allows it to throw the Royal Ludroth to the ground, where it bites at its foe's neck, dealing damage. Royal Ludroth rolls away and escapes.
With Ro'foberus Ankhami'dea howls as Ro'foberus steps up to its mark. The leviathan slides at the bird wyvern, its jaws crackling with lighting, but the vulture flaps away from the attack and caws. Ankhami'dea stands on its tail and readies a lunging bite - only for Ro'foberus to tackle it and force it onto its back, dealing damage, and then kick it away.
Abilities[]
Unique fangs allow Ankhami'dea to pass an electrical charge into its bites, attacking a target's nervous system. Its powerful front legs can be used to burrow into the ground, waiting for prey. While its gills are vulnerable, and the monster tires out quicker when they dry out, an absorbent mane keeps them cool and damp.
Ecological Information[]
Habitat[]
Ankhami'dea live along coastlines like the Blacksand Beach, where they can keep their gills wet and hide in the sand. However, they are never found in areas where Lagiacrus live, suggesting the two species are incapable of coexisting.
Ecological Niche[]
As it lives in areas without Lagiacrus, Ankhami'dea is capable of taking the spot of apex predator due to its large size and electrical prowess. Thin yet powerful bodies allows them to fight off threats and take down prey, however they would do well to be wary of invaders, like Deviljho, and elder dragons of any form.
Biological Adaptations[]
To keep their gills wet, Ankhami'dea have large manes that can catch and absorb water with ease. While swimming, these manes also tangle up with seaweed, providing further protection. To deal with prey, they have massive bite forces and strong locking muscles, allowing them to death roll, like a crocodile - alternatively, they can use their electrical sacs to deliver a charge into their fangs, putting the target into a cardiac arrest, so they can finish it off more easily.
Cutscenes[]
Strolling across the sand, the hunter finds a trail of seaweed, laid conspicuously across the ground, and far away from where the tide would normally reach. The player follows it, when suddenly, the sand bursts in front of them, revealing two large nostrils.
Remembering the Dodogama, the player backs away - into a Gritruma. The snake wyvern hisses, annoyed at being disturbed, and circles around them, trapping the player in its coils. It stops, and faces them, pulling its upper body off of the ground, and shaking its head before lunging -
The Ankhami’dea bursts from the sand, snapping its jaws around the serpent’s neck. Electricity crackles in its jaws, and the snake thrashes, trying to free itself. The player dodges left and right, but takes a hit from Gritruma’s tail and goes flying, as the leviathan bites into the serpent again, whilst trying to drag it to the ground.
Game Data[]
Rage and Tired States[]
- Rage State: Ankhami'dea begins to pant, and steam can be seen rising from its mane as the electrical sacs overload and begin to dry out the hairs and seaweed.
- Tired State: Ankhami'dea slows down to a halt. Often, it will leave combat immediately, and find somewhere to refresh its mane. Ankhami'dea loses stamina faster when its gills are attacked.
Interactions With Unique Statuses[]
There are no documented cases of frenzied, apex, or hyper Ankhami'dea. However, as a tier 2 threat, hunters must be warried of tempered individuals, who are known to be far more aggressive and more easily enraged.
Mounts/Clutch Claw Effects[]
Mounting[]
Ankhami'dea is mounted on its head, back, or hips.
Clutch Claw[]
The clutch-claw can be used on Ankhami'dea's head, shoulders, body and hips. Softening the head weakens a short length of neck, while the shoulders soften the front limbs as well. The body softens between the front and back limbs, and the hips will weaken the back limbs, but not the tail.
Breakable parts[]
Mane - Exposes its gills, and also means that it tires faster.
Arms (separately) - the claws are damaged, and the arms are scarred.
Tail - The fins are cut.

Notes[]
- The name is from "Ankh", "Ammit", and "goddess". Originally is was "Anami'des", but then Jeremiah V10 suggested "Ankhami'dea" and that was much better.
- This was created for the 2021 Egyptian theme contest - with Ammit as a base, it was given a crocodile's head and a mane like a lion. The thunder element was chosen as a way of recreating the beast eating the hearts of the damned. Meanwhile, its patient waiting is similar to Ammit waiting for judgement to be passed on the deceased, and its habit of waiting below the surface is like Ammit waiting in the underworld. Couldn't work her hippo features in though.
- Daimyo Hermitaur in Monster Hunter: Outcast wear oversized Ankhami'dea skulls instead of Monoblos ones, due to Monoblos not being present in the game, nor living on the island.
